Search and rescue missions are currently ongoing on the remote slopes in Tibet of Everest, where a intense winter storm has stranded around a thousand climbers in campsites on the eastern side of the summit.
Many community members and emergency crews have been deployed to dig out accumulated snow preventing entry to the region, which sits at an height of over 4,900 metres.
Some hikers have been evacuated successfully from the impacted location.
A major snow event started on Friday evening and has intensified on the east-facing areas of the peak in Tibet, an area popular with adventurers and outdoor enthusiasts.
Reports indicate that tents had given way due to the heavy snow, and a number of hikers were suffering from exposure.
Entry passes and admission to the Everest Scenic Area have been suspended starting Saturday.
The region is undergoing harsh climate, with neighbouring Nepal being affected by torrential downpours that have led to landslides and rapid floods, sweeping off road bridges and killing at least 47 people in the past 48 hours.
In the region, a severe weather system has come ashore, forcing approximately 150,000 people to relocate from their houses.
Everest is the globe's loftiest summit at above 8,849m. While countless adventurers try to ascend the peak each year, it is seen as an highly perilous expedition.
In the last decade, it has been affected by issues with over-tourism, ecological issues, and a number of deadly expeditions.
